The main official online source for Butte County jail records is the BCSO Booking Logs page. The sheriff's office posts public booking-log PDFs by week, with date ranges such as 05/21/26 to 05/27/26 and earlier weekly reports. Those PDFs are useful for recent arrests, case type labels, bail fields, charge rows, and warrant or hold entries. They are not the same as a searchable inmate profile roster with photos, housing units, release dates, and click-through records.

Research for Butte County found that the official CitizenRIMS public portal has routes for incarcerated people, arrests, warrants, and cases, but the inspected BCSO agency configuration reported inmate, arrest, warrant, and photo features as disabled. That means the reliable public channel is the weekly booking-log series, plus the jail phone line, BCSO Records, VINE, and the court portal. A same-day booking may not appear in the newest PDF yet, so the public log should be read as a posted record source, not a real-time custody guarantee.

The BCSO Corrections Division operates the Butte County Jail and links to inmate services, money, mail, bail, visiting, and VINE resources. The jail holds pretrial detainees, county-sentenced inmates, warrant arrests, parole and probation holds, remands, and local-custody sentences. State prisoners use CDCR's CIRIS locator after transfer, while federal and immigration custody require BOP or ICE systems.

2. Use the PDF search function for last name, first name, inmate number, agency, charge code, or case type.
3. Read all rows for the same person because one booking can include several charges, warrants, holds, and bail entries.
4. If the person is not listed, call the jail, register with VINE, check court records after filing, or use CDCR, BOP, or ICE if custody moved out of the county jail.

That page is the best online starting point for recent local bookings, but it still leaves current custody confirmation to the jail, VINE, or later court records when timing matters.

Timing is the main weakness in this system. The jail handbook describes release processing after court papers as taking time when no holds remain, and the weekly public log may lag behind a same-day arrest or release. When the booking is urgent, use the posted PDF only as one checkpoint. The jail phone line, VINE custody notification, and court portal each answer a different part of the custody question.

Butte County Booking Process

Medical and mental-health screening also occurs during booking. The handbook says licensed medical staff are on duty 24 hours and that a nurse conducts medical and mental-health screening during intake. Classification then assigns maximum, medium, or minimum security status, with administrative separation available for safety or security needs. Public logs do not show all of that internal classification detail, so a missing housing field is not proof that the person is not in custody.

Butte County Jail Visiting Rules

The Butte County visiting schedules hub links separate Main Jail and Expansion Jail or NORA schedules. The research supports using the hub for current housing-unit times because schedules may shift by unit. Public rules state that each inmate may receive two visits per week, each 45 minutes long, and visitors need valid government photo ID. Under-18 visitors must come with a parent or legal guardian, and guardians need documentation.

Friends and family can also leave a short voicemail through a prepaid account. Video visitation is linked through GettingOut and the county fee line lists video visitation at $0.25 per minute.

Staff do not accept incoming calls or take messages for incarcerated persons. That rule matters when a family member finds a Butte County inmate record and wants immediate contact. The practical route is to confirm custody, set up the approved phone or video account, follow mail rules closely, and avoid sending prohibited items that can delay or reject delivery.
